THE RAZZ: Reality Shows' Tops and Flops

Daily Record 12 April 2004

Beverley Lyons And Lee-Ann Fullerton

Will Young THE surprise winner of the first series of Pop Idol, he turned his back on judge Simon Cowell's offer to manage him and chose to spend time writing his own lyrics. Has enjoyed massive hits.

Gareth Gates THE Pop Idol runner-up, took the opposite route to winner Will and handed responsibility for his career over to record executive Simon Cowell. After three No.1s and a charity single, Gareth's star quality began to lose it's shine.

Hear'Say THIS five-piece won the nation's hearts and places in the original Popstars band in March 2001. Their first single Pure and Simple sold 1.2 million copies but just 18 months later, they'd split up amid furious rows.

Liberty X THE losers in the Popstars final were initially smarting at being passed over for fame. But they had the last laugh. While Hear'say self-destructed, they enjoyed seven top 10 hits and two top 10 albums.

They've a strong fan base and support within the industry.

Girls Aloud/ One True Voice THE second series of Popstars produced one girl band and one boy band releasing rival songs for Christmas No.1. Girls Aloud won the battle while One True Voice split. The Girls enjoyed success and four top 10 hits until one member, Cheryl Tweedy, was convicted of a drunken assault on a nightclub bathroom attendant. They're planning a re-launch next month.

Darius CHEESY Darius bounced back from humiliation on Popstars to make the final three on Pop Idol. His album Dive In went platinum and gave him four Top10 hits.

David Sneddon DAVID won a £1million recording contract when he triumphed on Fame Academy in 2002. The Paisley boy shot to No. 1 with his first single, while his debut album made it to No 5. But he turned his back on the glamour and is now working behind the scenes for Universal records.

Jordan's Flop Idols

Sunday People 11 April 2004

POP Idol star DARIUS DANESH has revealed that he was in JORDAN'S sights before she tried to seduce GARETH GATES.

So not only has Gareth had to suffer Jordan saying he wasn't any good in the sack, now he knows he wasn''t even her first choice of Pop Idol.

Darius said: "She was chasing me first before Gareth. It was flattering but she wasn't my type." Clearly she wasn't WILL YOUNG'S type either!

Moving On

Tim Dawson The Times 6 April 2004 Determined Scottish popster Darius Danesh has rented a house in Fulham with his girlfriend, Jacqui Ainsley. And to help with the £450 a week rent, they have got Fame Academy runner-up Sinead Quinn staying with them as well. It won’t be for long, however, as Darius is determined to get his feet on the property ownership ladder. Somewhere near a park to faciliate in-line skating would fit the bill nicely. Danesh says that he does not anticipate marrying for another 10 years and meantime he is planning to enjoy the rock’n’roll lifestyle
