Interviews: Darius

FemaleFirst.co.uk 10 January 2005

In just a few years Scottish born Darius Danesh has transformed himself from a pony tailed Britney enthusiast to a mature, thoughtful and handsome man with a knack for wearing tailored suits that rivals even the best looking member of Il Divo.

Once again Darius is back with the release of new single Live Twice the second single to be taken from his open and emotionally charged album of the same name.

This last year has not been easy for Darius who had to come to terms with his fathers terminal illness and overcome the writers block that plagued him while writing his second album, but with a new year just starting and a tour on the way things are definitely looking rosy.

His dad is in full remission and Darius is enjoying the fulfilment that comes with having a successful music career, just don’t mention Gerry..

Female First spoke to Darius via telephone today.

FF: Did you have a nice Christmas and New Year?

Darius: I had a wonderful time in Glasgow and the Isle of Arran with my family and I spent New Year in Edinburgh.

FF: Are you glad to be back on the manic music scene with your second album Live Twice, after taking some time out?

Darius: Yeah, it has been a bit of a rollercoaster I just got back from India at the end of the year the album went platinum out there so it was great to go to a country that I have always dreamed of travelling to and have an opportunity to experience it in such a wonderful way.

I will be going back out there touring in February and this year will be a year of promotion in Europe and the Live Twice 2005 tour when I get back in the UK.

FF: When will the Live Twice 2005 tour start in the UK?

Darius: I will be announcing the dates on the website dariusmusic.com at the beginning of this year once I sort out the dates.

FF: The new album seems very close to your heart, what do the think of the response you have gotten so far?

Darius: I think that whenever I have gotten feedback from people that have listened to the album compared to the first album which went platinum, it is an album that is a more mature record, it is a step up in terms of the production and the sound of the record.

I have been working with Steven Lipson the man behind Annie Lennox and it has been great to be able to travel to the States to record. I am really proud of the album it was a body of work that was really difficult to record because a lot of the lyrics were very open and naked.

FF: Your new single Live Twice was inspired by your dad, Booth, how is he doing now?

Darius: He is on top form, my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer in February and had six month to live, after proving the doctor’s wrong and pushing through the barrier that he was given in December the doctors turned around and admitted that he made somewhat of a miraculous recovery because he had been cleared of the cancer and was in full remission.

FF: If you could Live Twice would you do anything differently?

Darius: No regrets, just experience I think I would do it all again the same way.

FF: So are you single at the moment?

Darius: Yeah I am it is something that I hope to remedy by Valentines Day but who knows. I suppose that I have been investing a lot of my love and time in my family.

I have been linked with various high profile celebrity’s but you know when a man and a women are friends in a business like this it is inevitable that a lot of the gossip columns will revert to assumptions as opposed to the truth.

FF: So you haven’t got anyone picked out to send your Valentines card to yet, you’re still looking.

Darius: No and I’m not looking; I believe that what is meant for you won’t pass you by.

FF: What has been the biggest lesson life has taught you so far?

Darius: Never give up and the idea that you only ever fail if you stop trying.

FF: If you had never gone for the ‘Pop Idol’ audition what do you think you would be doing now?

Darius: I have always had a passion for writing songs and if there had been an audition called singer/songwriter idol that would have been great. I am just glad that I have been given the opportunity to write and sing songs, if I wasn’t singing I would be writing for other people.

FF: Any New Years resolutions.

Darius: Yeah, well last year my New Years resolution was to join a gym which I did so I have completed that one however I have not actually been so this years resolution is to actually go to the gym.

FF: You have fans from all ages, from children to the more mature lady, what do you think is your main appeal?

Darius: Oh I have no idea if they enjoy the music that’s all I worry about and I feel very flattered to have so many dedicated and very kind fans who have been very supportive not just in my music but in relation to the news of my dad my whole family have been very touched by there consistency, generosity and kind words.

FF: What does 2005 have in store for Darius?

Darius: I am going to be releasing Live Twice and after that one of my favourite songs from the album which I will keep under wraps because I want it to be a surprise then I will be in Europe promoting then back in the UK for the Live Twice tour.

FF: Do you have a message for your fans at Femalefirst.co.uk?

Darius: I would love to thank all of you, my fans and tell them that I loved the fact that when I did my Dive In tour I realised that 70% of my audience were female which makes my job so much easier and I feel like I am the luckiest guy I know.

I hope you enjoy the Live Twice album and if it brings you just a fraction of the joy that I had recording it then I will be very, very happy, also I wish you and your families a very happy and healthy 2005.

The new single ‘Live Twice’ is released on the 10th of January. The album ‘Live Twice’ is out now
