STV 4 March 2010

The Colour-blind singer talks about the best time of his life including all things opera, being newly-single and his love for Scotland.

It has been a busy start to 2010 for platinum-selling singer Darius Campbell, after a relatively low key couple of years. Darius made a triumphant return to our screens after winning STV’s Popstar to Operastar beating off Bernie Nolan in the final.

Darius can’t believe his luck and thanks his fans for all their support along the way.

“It’s been incredible, I want to thank you guys for your support and everyone who picked up the phone and voted,” Darius said. “It’s been an absolute dream and I’ve loved every moment of it.”

The 29-year-old is glad to be back and ready to concentrate on his third solo album which he is currently recording. With promises of a more mature sound, it seems that dabbling into opera may have influenced his new creativity and sound.

“It’s definitely been the beginning of a new chapter,” Darius says. “It’s absolutely something that is forming my new record,” With regards to his new sound Darius says “It will fall somewhere between Josh Groban and Michael Buble

Returning to the UK music scene after spending time in America polishing his acting skills and working on West End musicals including Gone with the Wind.

Darius believes it’s important to know where you come from and as a proud Scotsman, recently changed his surname from Danesh to Campbell and thanks his grandfather for convincing him to do so.

“Wherever you go in the world son, I will always be proud of you, you’ll always be a Campbell to me,” Darius said of his new name. “Do you know what I feel more like Darius Campbell, than I do Darius Danesh?”

From his early years performing on the highly successful TV reality show Popstars ten years ago to winning the Popstar to Operastar on STV at the start of 2010, Darius often cannot believe his own success.

“I just love what I do, I feel so grateful for that fact I have a career I get to do what I love,” Darius said. “I feel like when I wake up in the morning I am the luckiest guy in the world.”

A newly-single Darius has no intention of waiting around to find his next love interest. As a thank you the Scottish charmer will be hosting a champagne reception tomorrow night for all the Hour viewers at a local Glasgow hotspot.
