Hello!
Cosmo Girl
He’s taken some time out to date some beautiful lay-deez and flash his bits at all and sundry - and now Darius is back with a new album. Katie Cheeseman caught up with him…
more: You disappeared for a while – what were you doing?
I’ve spent the last year writing the second album, Look Twice. It’s good stuff.
more: And while you were writing you split up with your girlfriend, Jacqui. Did that help with material?
I think heartbreak is certainly something that is in a strange way motivational, turning a negative into a positive.
more: Do you think you’ll get back together?
She was the right girl at the wrong time, and who knows what might happen?
more: How did you meet your last girlfriend, Natasha Henstridge?
I was hanging out in LA with Jay Kay by a hotel swimming pool. I was going to meet Natasha, so I went upstairs and got changed. Jay Kay was by the pool and he shouted up to me, ‘Hey Darius, you better have a drink ready for her!, He had this Mojito, and as I went to grab the drink, he grabbed my wrist and flipped me over. I’m on my back, in the pool, fully clothed. Natasha’s standing there and I manage to muster, ‘Hi, I’m Darius’ and offer her the glass which still had some pool water in it! I don’t think I made the best first impression.
more: Do you think it helped get to know her?
Honestly after that I didn’t think she’d have lunch with me, and I certainly didn’t think she’d do the video.
more: So what do you normally do to seduce a girl?
Do you know, I’d love to tell you, but I couldn’t possibly!
more: Is it too naughty?
No, it’s a private, personal thing. I take relationships seriously. I know I like to have fun with my friends, with girls, I love dancing, I love dinner parties, I love playing games, I love going out but when you’re with someone you really like and there’s chemistry, it’s special.
more: Do you think Scottish and English men are different?
Other than accent and other than silly, bickering rivalry about football and rugby, we’re made out of the same flesh and bones. But… I do think a Scotsman looks better in a kilt.
more: Is it true you don’t wear anything under your kilt?
Well, I’m a true Scotsman!
more: Do you get a lot more female attention now that you’re famous?
I think in general people don’t approach someone in the public eye with romantic attentions, purely because they’re too embarrassed, or because they don’t have the Dutch courage at the time.
more: How about when you like a girl, do you need Dutch courage to talk to her?
No. I believe life’s too short to be worried about that. So I try to show my feelings and express myself.
more: Do you see yourself settling down?
One day in my life, I look forward to having my family, but I think that’s a long way away.
more: What do you look for in a girl? What do you find attractive?
Compassion, sense of humour, the ability to laugh at oneself is hugely attractive, a nice smile and beautiful eyes. Eye contact…
more: What’s the sexiest thing a girl could do to get your attention?
I love the smell of a girl’s hair when she’s just jumped out of the shower and you can still smell the shampoo. It’s better than perfume, it’s better than… it’s great. You can knock a guy flat with that smell.
more: You’ve met P Diddy. Is your life rock ’n’ roll at the moment?
About a month ago, I was invited to a friend’s house party. I realised I recognised this guy and half an hour later I found myself talking to 50 Cent. He was charming, and when I asked him what his favourite country in the world was, he said England. He said, ‘In America, we got ass, but you guys got class’. I offered him some champagne, but he said he preferred tea because ‘in America, we can’t get a decent cup of tea for s**t.’ So is my life rock and roll? Hell, I don’t know. If you call that rock ‘n’ roll, then absolutely.
Darius’ new album, Live Twice, is released on October 25. His single, Kinda Love, is out now.
