Geri will make a wonderful mum

Darius reveals to New about his relationship with pregnant former spice girl geri halliwell and how hes loved up with long distance girlfriend Natasha henstridge. No wonder people call Darius danesh the comeback King. No matter how many times he gets knocked down, the defiant Scot just keeps bouncing back. He was booted off the tv show popstars after his toe curling rendition of britney spears baby hit me one more time - but vowed that he would be back with a no.1 single and a platinum album before he was 35. Then in 2001 he reemerged on pop idol finishing third behind gareth gates and will young. After the show simon cowell offered Darius a milllion pound record deal but he turned it down in favour of recording his own songs. The risk paid off, and he got a no.1 single with colourblind and a platinum album Dive in both by the tender age of 23.More recently Darius has been in the gossip columns after being spotted with Geri halliwell whos now pregnant. He insists they were nothing more than friends and when he talks about his girlfriend of 16 months, Natasha henstridge 31, you can well believe him. Its clear that he is besotted with the Canadian actress, whos currently starring in the top US tv Commander in chief. When New catches up with Darius, hes busy rehearsing for his role as Billy flynn. the role playued by Richard Gere in the movie version. Darius is happy to chat about his dream role, his love life and his 63 year old father Booths recovering from cancer.
How did you get the part of Billy flynn in Chicago?
I was in L.A. starting to write my third album when I was asked to audition. I think they had heard a song of mine vcalled Devil in you, which I sing in a baritone voice.
Is being 6ft.4 a handicap when it comes to tap dancing?
Well,.its been a while since I dusted off my tap shoes, but its not that so much as being 25 and filling a role that is normally performed by a much older actor but it was something I just couldnt turn down.
You spend a lot of time in L.A.?
I got a place there in the summer, so I split my time between L.A. and London but I call Glasgow my home because my family still lives there.
Your girlfriend works in L.a. Is that why you have got a place there?
Well, it helps when you fall very much in love with a woman, whose as intelligent and funny as she is beautiful. Shes a wonderful, wonderful, girl. We met in los angeles and since then Ive being trying to develop a long distance relationship. A l;ittle thing like the atlantic ocean isnt going to get in the way.
Her acting career seems to be going well in the States?
Yes we are celebrating the news that Commander in chief is now the no.1 show in the US. hopefully it will be coming over herenext year.
It sounds that things are really going well for you both?
I feel very very lucky to be in a relationship. to be doing something I love and to have the good news that my father is in remission from havingtermainal lymphatic cancer.
Did you ever regret turning down Simons 1 million record deal?
No regrets because I have had the opportunity to be creatively independent. I have had five top ten singles, a platinum album and I have supported shakira in paris. I honestly dont feel I would have had these opportunities if I had come down the road of cover songs. I wanted to be my own man.Are you in touch with Simon, Oh yeah. We had dinner in L.a. a few months ago. His girlfriend Terri seymour is a friend of Natashas and they meet up quite a lot. Simon and I have genuinely grown to become friends which is lovely.
Do you have any advice for contestants from the x factor booted off the x factor early like Maria?
Its not as important. what a so called judge thinks of you. Its really about the people who love you and support you and believe in you.
What do you think of will youngs music?
I have heard his new single and I love it. Hes an individual and I feel very pleased for him.
It was rumoured you dated geri halliwell?
Oh you know its so funny, whenever I get photographed with anyone from a fellow artiste to a PA or just a mate from university, suddenly they are my girlfriend but Im very much in love with Natasha so it just makes me smile when I see these articles.
So Natasha not the jealous type then?
No not at all, shes one of the most beautiful women in the world and has men chasing her all the time. I feel very secure that we can both be in differen t countries and know that we love one another.
Are you still in touch with geri?
I bumped into her in L.A and she was looking wonderful. she was glowing, happy and smiling.
Did you know she was pregnant?
Ive heard that she is but we didnt talk about that. But I wish her health and happiness regardless of what has been written.
Do you think she will make a good mother?
She will make a wonderful mum.
Would you like to settle down and start a family soon?
I really look forward to creating my own family one day but that a little way down the line.
What are your planms after your stint in chicago?
I am going straight back to L.A to continue writing and l;ook forward to releasing my third album next year.
You must be very proud of achieving you platinum album before the age of 35?
Of course the platinum disc is on the wall at home to make Mum and Dad smile.
