Hello!
Cosmo Girl
Just as Teletext was starting to broadcast ten years ago, Darius Danesh was taking his first steps into becoming a singer-songwriter. "10 years ago, when I was 13, I heard More Than Words by Extreme and it made me want to take up the guitar and teach myself how to play" he reveals. "I wrote my first song at 13 and I suppose that was the beginning of this dream and passion I have for singing."
War was a heavy subject on the mind of young Darius nearly 11 years ago when the Gulf war was raging. "That was something that really scared the hell out of me as a kid. My Dad's Persian. The family fled the Middle East when he was a kid." he confides. "Our generation takes safefy for granted and doesn't often put into perspective the plight of people in other countries."
A day that affected the entire world in the past ten years is obviously September 11. Darius was in the middle of the Pop Idol auditions. "It was the day we were being told whether we had got through to the final 50 or not." he says. "I felt numb thinking about the atrocities. Other people's reactions to whether we had got into a talent competition made me see how selfish people can be sometimes."
Forget taking holidays to the moon in ten years. Darius has come up with an idea of his own - visiting 'inner space' as he calls it. "I'd love it if we had holidays to the bottom of the ocean - that would be great!" he exclaims. "I think it is wicked to see tropical fish. It would be really cool if there was an Atlantis-style resort - like a glass dome on the Indian Ocean seabed."
Ace readers may have voted Five as their favourite boy band of the past ten years but Darius Danesh is bigging up those boys in Blue. "For me they are the freshest boy band for years and they're my mates as well" he says. "I think they're genuinely talented guys. I know that Lee for example has the most incredible voice. He does have a set of lungs on him."
