I Owe It To My Family To Be The Best I Can

Darius found his family paid a high price for his fame.
I love my job! Each day, I come into the studio, do press or sing my songs to an audience - it's a dream come true! But there is a downside to fame and it hasn't been easy for my family. My mum and dad and brothers Aria (18) and Cyrus (8) are very approachable, but because I'm famous we've learned to be very private about our home life along the way.

The lives of everyone in my family have changed since I went on Popstars. My mum and dad have to be careful what they say to strangers. In fact, you never know if someone will go through your dustbins when you throw the rubbish out!
Doctor, doctor
My dad is a doctor and one time he was right in the middle of an operation when a call came through on an emergency phone. Dad rushed to the office and there's a guy sitting in the chair - and he's a tabloid journalist looking for a quote about me! Can you believe it?
Pap trap
What worried me more was my youngest brother, Cyrus. When I got evicted from Popstars, the tabloids were waiting outside his school, ready to grab him when he came out. They had the cameras in his face, flashing away, asking questions like, "How does it feel that your brother's a failure?" Cyrus was in tears - he was like a little rabbit in the headlights. That was sooo cruel. The whole experience affected him badly. He hates cameras - he developed a phobia about them. It really upset him for about a year, but he's gradually coming out of it. Even so, he wouldn't let my dad video his birthday party.
Family affair
I feel responsible that the situation upset him. Now things have calmed down a lot and my family has adjusted to deal with the fame. I'm very grateful to have been given this opportunity and I couldn't have done it without support. I owe it to my family to be the best I can.
